John Saxon

Over a span of fifteen years, John Saxon (1923–1996) authored and co-authored six math, calculus and physics textbooks for Grades 6–12. His passion to improve math textbooks led him to start his own publishing company, which grew to include math instruction for all Grades K–12, phonics and spelling curricula, and an early learning program aligned with Saxon’s philosophy of instruction. John Saxon’s 14 years of teaching mathematics at Rose State College provided him the incentive to pursue a new approach to math education, one that emphasized a strong foundation in the basics along with continual review and practice. In 2004, the company was sold by the Saxon family to Harcourt Inc. Saxon textbooks have been used since 1981 across the nation and around the world.
