Prepare Students for Calculus and Beyond
Our precalculus courses equip students in Grades 9–12 for college math.

Give Students a Head Start on College Math
Our two options for a high school precalculus curriculum provide the foundation students need for success in calculus and college-level math. For students who have completed Algebra 2, the courses can be an important step forward into college math or a career in the math, technology, or science fields.
Developed by Math Experts
Precalculus, by former high school math teacher and current university dean Dr. Cynthia Young, and Functions Modeling Change, by members of the Harvard Calculus Consortium Connally, Hughes-Hallett, and Gleason et al, provide students the support they need for true conceptual understanding, without sacrificing rigor.

We’ve partnered with Wiley, a leader in Advanced Placement®, honors, and electives materials, to deliver advanced courses to more students across the country. Broad access to advanced-level coursework dramatically impacts students’ ability to thrive in college and beyond.
Presenting numerical, graphical, and algebraic approaches builds on different student strengths and provides students with a variety of ways to master the material. Multiple representations give students tools to persist, lowering failure rates.

Standout Features of Functions Modeling Change
- The Rule of Four: To deepen students’ conceptual understanding, the program presents concepts numerically, symbolically, graphically, and verbally.
- Concept Tests: These tests, included via PowerPoint®, work with classroom response systems (clickers). Studies show that students taught with Concept Tests outperformed students taught using traditional lecture methods.
- Skills Refreshers: These refreshers provide a quick glance at the skills students will need to be successful in each lesson, with practice exercises ready to assign within the Edplatform.
- A Flexible Approach: Teachers can choose the approach that fits their needs. For instance, trigonometry can be covered with unit circle first or triangles first.
- Authentic Applications: Students create models that relate to the real world, making the math relevant, which builds understanding.
Standout Features of Precalculus
- Built-in Supports: These include interactive animations that bring core concepts to life and video lectures that provide opening overviews for each chapter, covering the concepts students find the most challenging.
- “Catch the Mistake" Exercises: Students evaluate worked-out problems to find errors. This requires a deeper understanding than just performing the exercises.
- "Modeling Our World" Projects: Included in every section, these projects engage students with real-world data to model mathematical applications found in everyday life.
- Parallel Words and Math: Precalc examples are shown with the words on the left and the math on the right to match the natural flow of how we read. This supports students when they work independently, mirroring the way the teacher explained the process in class.
- Ed Online Learning System: The Edplatform provides teachers with a wealth of digital resources, including inquiry-based learning projects, lecture videos, interactive animations, technology tips, algebra refresher modules, assignable student practice, and much more.
