As the school year draws to a close and in the light of the ongoing pandemic, you may be looking at remote learning opportunities for students over the summer.

While language arts and social studies can involve reading activities and math can assign problems to solve, what can you do when it comes to science labs and experimentation skills without access to a classroom full of lab equipment? Do-it-yourself lab equipment to the rescue!

We’ve been telling students for years about how there are pieces of science and engineering all around them. Now they can build their own equipment and do science in their own home!

Build Your Own Lab at Home

Download this DIY lab equipment activity to help your students make their own scientific instruments— including balances, graduated cylinders, magnifiers, planters, and specimen boxes—using easy-to-find materials. In many cases, they can substitute the suggested materials from the lists as needed.
